Wine Tour – Wine Stories at Dafnes Valley

Dafnes Valley

Dafnes is one of four PDO appellations on the Greek island of Crete in the southern Aegean Sea. The designation covers red wines from the Liatiko grape variety. These may be more conventional dry reds or sweet wines made from sun-dried grapes.

While Liatiko is the only variety permitted in wines bearing the Dafnes appellation, various other grapes are planted in the region’s vineyards. Wines made from these must be labeled under the more generic PGI-level appellations of Crete or Heraklion. They may however have similar-sounding brand names (such as Douloufakis’ Dáfnios range), which also refer to the village.
